Real Madrid and Barcelona win big in Champions League league phase

2 min read

Real Madrid and Barcelona both delivered convincing results in the latest Champions League league-phase round of the 2026/27 season, while Como produced one of the most eye-catching scorelines of the campaign so far, thrashing Lens 9-1 in France.

Real Madrid grind out a late win in Athens

Real Madrid won 3-2 away to AEK Athens in a lively match in the Greek capital, a difficult venue against a side that knows how to make life hard for visitors.

AEK took the lead early through Aboubakary Koita in the 12th minute, but Madrid responded. Jude Bellingham levelled before half-time, and Kylian Mbappé put his side ahead in the 78th minute. Stavro Pilo had restored parity for the hosts in the 75th minute, but Federico Valverde struck deep into stoppage time, in the 92nd minute, to secure the win.

Barcelona dominate at the Camp Nou

Barcelona were comfortable hosts at the Spotify Camp Nou, beating Aston Villa 3-0. The Catalan side controlled the game from start to finish.

Lamine Yamal was the standout, opening the scoring in the 6th minute. After the break, Raphinha scored twice, in the 52nd and 64th minutes, to seal the win and move the team higher up the table.

Como stun Lens with a 9-1 rout

The biggest headline of the round came from Como, who travelled to the Bollaert-Delelis Stadium and beat Racing Club de Lens 9-1, one of the heaviest defeats of the competition so far for the French side.

Anastasios Douvikas led the charge with a hat-trick (7th, 31st and 57th minutes). Nico Paz, Lucas Da Cunha, Marc-Oliver Kempf, Mattia Liberali, Martin Baturina and Matteo Papaccioli also found the net. Ruben Aguilar had briefly pulled one back for Lens.

Title race and qualification picture

The results reinforce the ambitions of the established favourites, while Como’s performance shows that emerging sides can compete with Europe’s elite. The fight for the direct qualification places promises to be intense in the coming rounds.
