Olimpia came from behind to beat Guaraní 3-1 at the Villa Alegre in Encarnación on matchday 19 of the Torneo Clausura 2026, taking the “Clásico Más Añejo” in a result that strengthens their grip on the top of the table.
Guaraní started better and took the lead through Giovanni Gómez, but Pablo “Vitamina” Sánchez’s side responded before the interval and never looked back. Gabriel Ávalos scored twice, one of them from the penalty spot, and Mateo Gamarra added the third to seal a convincing away win.
Olimpia tighten their grip on the title
The victory serves two purposes for the Franjeado. It extends their advantage at the summit and puts them in a strong position to retain the championship. It also mathematically ends Guaraní’s hopes of a title challenge, despite a team that fought until the final whistle.
Olveira’s save proves decisive
Guaraní had a golden chance to pull level shortly before the hour mark. Fernando Cardozo was judged to have caught Juan Manuel García in the area, and referee Derlis López pointed to the spot. Diego Fernández took the kick, but Gastón Olveira guessed correctly and pushed the low shot away. It was his fifth penalty save of eight faced this season. García then collected the rebound but sent his effort over the bar.
Late changes fail to rescue Guaraní
Francisco “Chiqui” Arce used his substitutions in search of a comeback, bringing on Juan Daniel Pérez in the closing stages, but Guaraní could not find an equaliser. Olimpia, meanwhile, managed their rotations to keep fresh legs on the pitch and held on for the win.
