The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has taken its fight over FIFA’s disciplinary measures to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The appeal targets penalties handed down after incidents linked to the World Cup final, a match Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain.
Disciplinary Action Challenged
FIFA sanctioned the AFA following the disturbances that followed the decider. By lodging the appeal with CAS, the federation is seeking to overturn or reduce those punishments, which have become a source of anger in Argentina.
The case now goes before the Lausanne-based tribunal, which is responsible for resolving disputes in international sport and will decide whether the sanctions stand.
