Caracas FC beats Monagas 2-0 in Maturín, keeps final-phase hopes alive

2 min read

Caracas FC produced a composed away performance on Tuesday, beating Monagas SC 2-0 at the Estadio Monumental in Maturín. The win came in matchday four of the Liga FUTVE Final Phase and gave the club three points that keep its hopes of reaching the decider very much alive.

Reinoso and González decide it late

The match was tight and physical in midfield, with both sides enjoying spells of control under coach Noel Sanvicente’s tactical setup. For most of the first 80 minutes, neither team could find a decisive final ball, and chances were scarce in the last third.

Caracas broke the deadlock in the 81st minute through Luciano Reinoso. He profited from a well-worked move inside the home penalty area and finished with a precise shot into the net.

Sebastián González, the Colombian forward, sealed the result in the 88th minute with a powerful header that the Monagas defence could not stop, leaving the score at 2-0.

Points that reshape the table

The victory lifts Caracas to six points from four matches in the four-team group. It also keeps pressure on Deportivo Táchira, which must not drop points in the closing rounds of the group stage.

Monagas, meanwhile, sees its own ambitions take a serious hit. Caracas now needs to keep its winning run going in the last two rounds and hope for a slip from Táchira if it wants to push for the top spot in the group.
